Hatred is a word that comes up a lot when the topic of cyclists in Sydney comes up.
“I hate those bloody road hogs”
“I hate those spandex-wearing wankers”
“I hate how arrogant and holier-than-thou they act!”
It’s a small word with lots of loaded meaning. But it’s important to think about who you’re directing that hatred towards.
Is it a father coming home to his two small children? Is it a mate who’s friends are wondering why he’s late and hasn’t messaged them?
Could it even be a student trying to get to her last exam of the semester?
It’s important to realise that our actions are loud, but our words often speak more than they ever can. So whenever you’re on the road next, it’s important to think about how your actions can contribute to an already negative space towards cyclists.
